PASSPORTS - INTERNATIONAL

PASSPORTS
There is nothing more frustrating than having taken time off work to arrange your passport or visa application, only to find you have to go through the whole process again because your photos have been rejected.  With the advent of facial recognition systems, and the recent upscale in Homeland Security,  the bar has been raised and the specifications changed to meet a much higher standard.

That homegrown phone camera setup won’t cut it.  Approximately one quarter of a million passport photos are rejected annually by the state department.  There are General Guidelines including some hidden rules for successful passport pictures.

REJECTIONS

•  We make sure that the physical dimensions or the photo and head size is accurate for your country

•  We ensure that the background color specified for your country is also acceptable

•  Note; Passport and Visa photos produced from scanned pictures will never be accepted

•  Excessive makeup and jewelry are common grounds for rejecting photos

•  Many countries will not accept pictures of people in uniform

•  New Rules : No glasses period!

•  Do not wear white nor the color of your countries specified background color.

•  Cover your shoulders - otherwise you will look naked - Not Good

•  Showing your teeth or smiling is unacceptable - because it distorts the face

•  All countries state that a natural expression is necessary

•  Some people have BIG hair - our advice is not to let it go outside the edge of the photo

•  Digital retouching to alter or enhance your facial features is forbidden

CANADA -  Canada has the toughest Photo specifications for it’s citizens because of a facial recognition system being integrated by their Homeland Security.  Eventually I predict it will become the norm in the major free travel countries of the world.    Passport Forms for Canadians:     http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/passport/forms.asp

In our area alone Tampa Bay, a very large percentage of photos I have done have been do-overs that others have taken, even some done by commercial photographers and were not accepted.  If you live in Florida and don’t mind several trips to the Post Office, thats fine.

My goal is to do it once, I am the only PMAI Certified Canadian Passport Photographer in Florida.  Click on the Flag or Passport to the Canadian section and regulations, information.
